First incense

Regardless of how one’s fortune is in the current year, one always hopes for good luck in the coming year. Each year, at the very first moment when the Chinese New Year begins, worshipers scramble for offering the first incense at temples in order to get the priority of Gods’ blessing and to pray for an auspicious and prosperous new year. In fact, besides on the first day of Lunar New Year, the first incense can be offered from 5:00 to 7:00 every morning, whereas the very first incense placed at a temple when it opens can also be regarded as the first incense. Also, there is one point that is always overlooked: one has to use both hands to demonstrate a Tai Chi shape in front of one’s breasts and the incenses can be placed anywhere provided one prays with a pious heart. However, the chaos made by those utilitarian worshipers is believed to be backfired at the deities’ expectations.
